The automotive industry in Germany is one of the largest employers in the world. Ever since the inventions of Karl Benz, who started Mercedes-Benz, Gottlieb Daimler and Nicolaus Otto, automobiles have played a hugely important role in German economy. It is no surprise, that the makers of Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Porsche and Audi are extremely proud of their heritage. The Volkswagen Beetle and the Porsche 911 are known to almost everyone in the world.

Today, German car manufacturers own and develop a large number of formerly independent car brands. While Volkswagen owns Porsche, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini and Ducati, amongst others, BMW has acquired Rolls-Royce and Mini.

Despite German motorways not having an official speed limit, the safer way to drive and test those cars, will be on private racetracks with an instructor, which can be arranged from North to South.
